SoLR November Update

Updated: Dec 16, 2022

The festive period is soon to be upon us, and as your community committee, we have gifted our members with a variety of Christmas socials so you can celebrate alongside your colleagues and SoLR community.

We have put together three different events to cater for our members in a variety of locations - Manchester, Birmingham and London. All events will be held next week, on Wednesday the 23rd of November. With all the events just around the corner and running on a first come, first serve basis, be sure to RSVP as soon as you can to secure your place.

Alongside our upcoming events, we continue to promote external CPD events like the Royal Geographical Society support sessions for becoming a chartered geographer, which are all listed on our events page.

Whilst our community committee has been busy bringing us all together through various events, our industry committee (chaired by Thanasis Skentos) and our careers committee (chaired by Victoria Sherwin) have been establishing and have launched a short survey which will help inform their initial objectives and 2023 priority setting. Please take 2 minutes to complete this short, anonymous survey by clicking here or on the image below:

Upcoming Events

Throughout October, some of our SoLR members braved the weather and took part in some local running events. Huge congratulations to: Jack Parris, Heather Body, Joshua Brown and George Brittlebank, who all completed 10k runs.

fantasy football league

Our fantasy football league is well underway. Our top three entries seem to be in a constant battle for top spot on our leaderboard, however FC Bounce, managed by Mark Aanensen is currently coming in at 1st place.

It seems that two of our entries may be wishing for new kitchen utensils this Christmas, as Simon Harth and Chloe Barrett battle it out in the running for the wooden spoon prize at the bottom of the league...BUT this could all change. Due to the World Cup, we still have 22 game weeks left to go, so plenty of time to get yourself to the top of the leader board, or the bottom!

committee member update

We would like to welcome our newest community committee Member, Chloe Barrett.

Chloe has previously helped in organising and promoting our events as an office representative for the WSP team based in Manchester. We are thrilled to now welcome her as a committee member and look forward to all the ideas she will bring.

"I’m Chloe Barrett and I have been in the land referencing industry within WSP for just over 4 years. I’ve been an office rep within SoLR for a few months, I love getting involved with planning events and have been enjoying getting to know others from across the industry. In my spare time I like reading, baking, travelling and socialising with friends"

As always, we welcome any ideas and/or feedback that you may have. Please feel free to reach out to any of our committee members or email us at: events@solr.org.uk

Kind regards,

SoLR Community Committee
