Land Referencing Standard

C.2 Registration and mapping context
Jurisdiction: England and Wales
Primary registration context: HM Land Registry; unregistered-title evidence can require deed and other inquiries
Typical registered record: Register, title number, title plan and filed documents
Spatial context and caution: Ordnance Survey mapping commonly uses OSGB36 British National Grid. Title-plan boundaries are generally represented subject to the registration system’s boundary rules and source limitations.
Jurisdiction: Scotland
Primary registration context: Registers of Scotland; Land Register and, for older recorded deeds, the Register of Sasines
Typical registered record: Title sheet, cadastral map and registered deeds; Sasine search sheets and deeds where relevant
Spatial context and caution: Ordnance Survey mapping commonly uses OSGB36 British National Grid. Land Register and Sasine evidence require different treatment and cannot be assumed to have the same spatial structure.
Jurisdiction: Northern Ireland
Primary registration context: Land and Property Services; Land Registry, Registry of Deeds and Statutory Charges Register
Typical registered record: Folio, Land Registry map and registered instruments; Registry of Deeds material for unregistered land
Spatial context and caution: OSNI mapping and the project CRS are to be specified. The Land Registry map locates registered holdings but does not itself guarantee boundaries.
Jurisdiction: Republic of Ireland
Primary registration context: Tailte Eireann Property Registration; Land Registry and Registry of Deeds
Typical registered record: Folio, title plan or other registration map and filed instruments
Spatial context and caution: Current official registration maps use Irish Transverse Mercator. Scale and source-accuracy limitations are to be retained when interpreting or enlarging mapping.
