C.4 Inquiry terminology

Legislation, standing orders, rules, guidance and contracts can require inquiry described as reasonable, diligent or by another expression. These expressions shall not be treated as synonyms without analysis of the applicable source.

A jurisdictional or procedural profile should identify:

the source of the inquiry obligation;

the persons, rights, land or effects to be identified;

required notices or outputs;

relevant source categories;

timing and refresh obligations;

treatment of unknown or untraceable parties; and

evidence required to demonstrate compliance.
