I am a Technical Director in WSP’s Land team. I’ve managed and delivered land referencing and statutory processes for major infrastructure projects for over 15 years, and have a passion for making a real difference for developers to help them navigate the planning process. My particular specialism is in Development Consent Orders, having delivered the land related deliverables on over 25 of them, and each and every one has brought its own interesting challenges and complexities. No two projects are ever the same! To be part of such a vibrant and developing industry is fascinating and testament to the reason I have settled on this as my career.

I joined WSP (then Mouchel) in 2008, delivering Crossrail and Thameslink, including a two-year secondment with Network Rail learning the intricacies of compulsory purchase and quality control in land referencing and also managed the public inquiry for the Hitchin Grade Separated junction. I developed early DCO templates for Network Rail working on the Ipswich cord and North Doncaster cord lines, before broadening into other industries to deliver the largest land referencing exercise ever submitted for Tideway, connection projects for National Grid, highway developments for National Highways, land referencing and advice for Heathrow, Luton and Manston airports as well as supporting in providing land services for renewable and other energy related infrastructure.

The role that land referencing has across each and every one of these projects is vital to ensure all those affected individuals are given their opportunity to have their say on the projects. The opportunity to learn and develop in this industry – land referencers bring the lessons learnt from across the whole industry and the whole project lifespan to help drive best practice within projects throughout their process.
